WebHosea was the last of the prophets of the northern kingdom. Fortunately, the book that bears his name has been preserved. When the Assyrians overran the land, someone escaped to the south and brought the manuscript to the city of Jerusalem. WebHosea had a very long prophetic ministry, probably from about 750 to 722 B.C.E. Hosea began his prophetic activity in the northern kingdom during the reign of Jeroboam II (died 746 B.C.E.). The years of Jeroboam’s reign were the last days of what had been a century of peace and prosperity.
